I have a dream for our world. I dream that one day every person in this world would have home, a place to live. Even the idea of being homeless is very awful. It is very wrong that many people do not have a place to live, a place they can call their home. It is the responsibility of each and every person to make sure that all of us have place to live, a home. A place, which is warm, friendly, welcoming and safe. Everyone, especially children should have a place to live. One more thing that I dream of is all the people should have food to eat. You may not know this but many children in African villages eat ants to feed themselves because they do not have money for buying of food, which is very awful. Many people die from poverty (dying of hunger) in different parts of the world. When I go to school, I see many people living on the streets, which makes me very sad. But homelessness is something we can completely destroy. All we need to do is to try and help the needy people. We can also try and feed poor people and children who live on the street. Many organizations help homeless and poor people, and provide them with a place to live and food to eat. “We all have to become part of the solution” is what Martin Luther King said on Homelessness. In India too, many people have no place to live and they beg for food, money and live on the streets. Imagine having to no bed, blanket, and sleeping on roadsides in cold outside. It is a very scary picture to imagine. But many people have no money, no help. We can try to help these people by donating money towards their needs. Educate the children living on streets when you are free will also help a lot. It is very sad that India yet does not have any national policy on homelessness. I dream that very soon there will be official recognition of Right to Shelter in Indian Law. A lot of children work at factories with dangerous material to earn money and do not go to school. They have no help at all, picture being alone, no parents to take care of you. It is an estimate that about 100 Million people are homeless worldwide, which is quite shocking and horrifying! More people are victims of violence because of not having a secure place to live. War affected countries such as Iraq also have large number of people being homeless. So we have to give extremely serious attention on this issue and try to help however we can, because every little help creates a difference. The Homeless needs our help very intensely. They also desire and deserve to have a place to call their own, food to eat, clean clothes to wear and education for all. So, next I hope that we all will respect the homeless and we respect ourselves, because they are same as us but in difficult situation.

Where are the educational factors in IB? by NH
it's sad to know that we live in a world with the issues you describe. however, dreams can come true, specially if we really work to achieve them. we have to "act locally and think globally"
take care!
.:la ociosidad es el ideal del genio y la pereza la virtud romántica:.
That´s a most wonderful dream, in fact! Of course, many of us share this notion, but dreams are just absent thoughts. In order to write these dreams as valid spectacles that do exist, we have to realize them. Nobody expects these wonders to really come true to them, help is a hope that is often not expected, only believed as a myth to these people. Those who live in conditions we can´t even imagine, as much as we think we can. Often, there are even worse situations in which, as such as ocurrs in Brazil, people are the mere problem. Most brazilian children have a gun in hand instead of a toy their whole childhood. It´s terrible, true. But apart from phisical conditions, what about their spirits, minds? how are they to judge what´s wrong or right? how are they to move on? even if we provide them with food, water and shelter?. I believe the most useful thing to do is, apart from what you´ve suggested, to also educate so they can help themselves. In Mexico, where I live now, often there are kids and teenagers who beg for money on the streets. Those kids, never do an effort when they grow up, they get used to recieve money, deny to work, and every responsability. When money stops pouring from merciful hands, they starve. They prefer to starve than to earn it from their own. But it´s all about their education. Everyone looks at places like Africa or India. What about latinamerica?. Why not search also here for the problem, and find a solution here too? Places like Mexico and Brazil have a different kind of need, but it is still.. a need.
Dear Samt Mansha,
I think you have an admirable dream but we are part of the IB Community with teachers and the Organisation trying to help us develop into people who can change the world. I agree with ociocienta about acting locally but there's another way - to study, work and become someone who can influence a difference from witihn the system. Just don't forget your dream along the way - it's what's called being 'Principled'.
Dear Valentina,
How right you are - we shouldn't be distracted by world media fads and we should look to home. What can you do (or what can be done) to educate the people in your area? What do you need to do this? Teachers? Media barons? Politicians? Who can reach these people? Who can train people willing to teach? Who can understand enough to teach what is needed? Once someone's educated what then? The ex-Soviet lands are full of qualified, educated people with little hope of earning from the jobs they are trained for - so what can they do?
As IB students you need to think of ways to solve problems but you've done well to get to the first stage - to be aware and to identify the problem.
It's good that your bringing light onto what's going on in India but if you could provide some kind of solution or give a list of charities that you think are credible and effective in helping the situation it would be helpful for those of us who aren't as famililar with the problem.
