KIS is located at 2133m in the peaceful Palani Hills of South India, a region known for its rugged beauty and cool temperate climate. Historically Kodaikanal International School's Indian location and Christian mission origins laid a firm foundation of service in the culture and ethos of the school. KIS first long range planning document, Project Design, published in 1974 articulated a specific objective :
To develop in staff and students an awareness and concern for international issues such as the conservation and sharing of natural resources and its relation to population, the struggle for liberation from social, economic and political oppression and the achievement of justice and peace, the problems of developing nations and societies and the dynamics of development.
This was later embodied in 1994 as Statement of Philosophy.KIS has identified the following projects, over the years, which are used to promote the IB CAS program:
1. Shenbaganur Home for the Orphans2. Bethania Foundation for HIV Affected Children3. Mercy Home for the Aged4. Bethania Kids Home for Children from Tsunami affected families5.
