Developing pen pal relationships wasn't enough to really begin to understand similarities and differences between Kalanso School in Mali and Brandon School in Atlanta, Georgia. So in an exchange program between the schools, two teachers from the Malian school traveled to Atlanta for a 5 week immersion experience in the Fall of 2008. Students, teachers, as well as other community members gained a greater understanding and appreciation for the Malian people and culture, while the visiting teachers experienced American education and culture first hand. To continue this partnership, two teachers from Atlanta are traveling to Mali this summer to continue the partnership in international understanding.
In addition to immersion experiences, students from both schools are exchanging original stories. Children's stories not only help to improve literacy skills, but promote further cultural discussions.
