Hi. I am a science teacher of myp (Adams City High School ) in Commerce City Colorado (Denver area USA) and I am looking to establish teacher - teacher and student - student collaborative interactions on global issues.
My school district provides educational oppotrunities to many families of low socio-economic status and English as a second language. We are a "low" achieving school according to Colorado State Standards and assessments.
Nevertheless, we are attempting to improve our educational levels and seek informal partnerships with classrooms from around the worl.
Specifically we are interested in looking for teachers / students who would want to
(1) correspond by email and/or post to a blog about global issues and local ramifications (ex: poverty within your community);
(2) collect data and share on scientific projects within the local community (ex: water purity);
(3) exchange cultural awareness through student-student interactions (ex: electronic penpals).
Anyway, I'd appreciate you emailing me at doug.abshire@gmail.com . Other ideas are greatly appreciated!
My students have posted some comments to the global issue of poverty and hunger which can be found at www.09chemistry.blogspot.com .This is to support the IB global lesson on the Eradication of Poverty Day Oct 17th as per this website. We will use this blog for many global issues through out this year.
I also contribute to a global learner blog which may be of interest to you at http://principianteglobal.blogspot.com .
Thanks for your time and consideration.
