Give me Shelter is a collection of short stories about children all over the world who have left their homes and families as refugees, often escaping war or persecution.  These eleven stories tell of their attempts to find safety and security in the West. Some are written by asylum seekers, and others by people who work closely with them.

They include:

Samir Hakkim's Health Eating Diary, by Miriam Halahmy tells the story of Samir, who escapes Saddam's Iraq in 2002.

A place to hide by Rob Porteous is about Mukhtar, from a village in Darfur in Western Sudan who flees the conflict there.

Leslie Wilson's Cherry Strudel is about Jusef, who flees Kosovo in the 1990s and in Britain meets an old woman who had herself had to leave her home after the Second World War.

Saeda Elmi and Lucy Henning's Beans for Tea is based on Saeda's own escape from Somalia to a safer life in England.
