CELEBRATING PEACE DAY SEPTEMBER 21
The primary section of our school celebrated the International Day for Peace by paying tribute to the memory of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako was two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. She was two kilometers away from where the bomb exploded. Most of Sadako's neighbours died, but Sadako wasn't injured at all, at least not in any way people could see. When she was twelve she was diagnosed with leukemia, a tragic after effect of the bomb. Believing in a hope filled legend of making paper cranes to increase life span, she began folding hundreds of cranes during her stay in the hospital. Sadako passed away, but her spirit of hope has been kept alive by her friends and millions of people across the world, who fold cranes and send to the peace monument in Hiroshima. The students from grades 2 to 5 of Pathways World School have done the same. They have heard her story, been inspired and folded cranes. Some were sad to hear about what happened to Sadako and it was heartening to see during class sharing time, that other students were cheering up the atmosphere by looking at the spirit with which Sadako fought over her disease and how she did not let it touch her soul. This is exactly what Sadako wanted! To come out of adversities and win over the negatives that life has to offer at times. They have also created a message for peace. The cranes are being sent to Hiroshima and will join the thousands other there as silent yet effective messengers of hope and peace.
