Students often believe the first picture, video or website they come across as gospel.  How can we ensure they keep an open mind to what they view and hear?

They should stop looking at

They should stop looking at religious sites.

Provide examples of cases

Provide examples of cases where the initial information was incorrect.

e.g. "The world is flat."

A discussion needs to take

A discussion needs to take place about what is meant by the phrase 'open-minded'.  The antithesis of this behaviour, 'close-minded' 'narrow-minded', is where we can begin to examine the perceived intent.  Students need to be encouraged to access a number of resources and critique those sites where the validity and reliability is questionable.
