I am sorry that I have not checked this page for quite awhile. We did take student-published books to Malawi this summer. I would love to continue to connect with other schools world-wide to expand this initiative.  Many of the books taken were placed in a public school's "library" because there just weren't any books for the students.  

 This "gift" of student-published books also encouraged some of the Malawian students to write their own stories.  We will publish these stories to add to the collection.  

The children's culture rings clearly through their stories.

I really enjoyed reading about this project and seeing the photos on the blog.

It seems such as simple idea, but lets young people connect with one another at a personal level.

I shall be mentioning the project at the IB Africa, Europe and the Middle East regional conference in Morocco next week.

There is another organization that does something similar to this work - called Books of Hope.  Schools from all over the world are contributing books to schools in Africa.  Just thought I would share this resource!  The kids at our schools participated in their work, but I would like to know more about your group.  It might be a better option for us!
