I am writing to find schools that partner together to use technology to have the students communicate and collaborate with each other. I am also looking for samples of digital portfolios. If anyone can help please post. Thank you.

I would consider a collaboration. You do not mention what grade level or type of collaboration you propose.
I currently teach level 3 design technology and my students are working on redesigns of rooms. My students all live in modern housing in a major urban setting--New York City. I could imagine we could involve the theme of global poverty by developing an understanding of how others live, what kinds of dwellings they inhabit and how they manage solving the basic need for shelter. In NYC we have a tremendous problem around sheltering the homeless. I am already starting to think about how to incorporate that into my lessons.
Hello... I would like to share my process working with the Ib community theme. I teach Design Technology in the MYP.
In 2nd grade students must design machines to solve poverty problems in a specific country or community around the world.
In 3rd grade, students investigate different ways of solving necessities thorugh the use of technological elements and apply this information designing new elements and devices. Design Folder includes an analysis of this topic.
Finally in 4th grade students are making investigations about different sources of energy around the world. They have to include in the design folder an analysis of how energy is a major problem, affecting and creating social conflicts, environmental problems etc. and how is that related with poverty around the world.
