Click the link above for pictures from Mrs. Susan Mays, our school librarian who volunteers at the orphanage every 18 months.

Students from the graduating class at the Upper School of the North Hills Preparatory (NHP) recently raised $3000 for the Samaritan Village Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. Orphans there are able to live in a hygienic and well-cared environment, and attend nearby schools.

This fundraising effort, named "IB A Good Samaritan" by this year's seniors, will be continued next school year by the Class of 2010. In addition to publicity in the local community in Irving, Texas, where NHP is located, we are looking at publicity through Facebook (including Pages and Causes applications) for next year. There will soon be available photos from Mrs. Mays, our librarian who traveled to Tanzania to deliver our support.

Please see the attachment below for more details.

Thank you olowonria for your encouragement. I hope you also took a look at the orphanage's official website.Although I have not been to Arusha, Tanzania myself, our school librarian visited and delivered our wishes and donations. I also know of a professor at Northwestern University who's quite acquinted with the area. Lots of desparate mothers leaving kids on the streets in the hope that someone more financially capable can take care of them. Jingshen Zhao
