In tomorrow's homeroom periods for years 1-3 of the Middle Years Programme we will be drawing attention to the UN Day for Eradicating Poverty.

Students will find out about the origins of the day, do the miniature earth exercise where students have to make predictions based on the idea that the planet is reduced to the size of a village with 100 inhabitants.  This global village is representative of today's society and asks students to make predictions such as how many people would have a bank account or how many people would be malnourished.  We will then share the ideas about what we can do about poverty from IB global lessons resources.

In the second period we will hear about youth poverty in Kiev. The Aspern Centre which helps street children in the city will give us some local context and we are hoping to develop some opportunities for service based learning in the near future.

We'll keep you posted about our developments this year and I will keep you posted with our progress.

Any support or opportunities for collaboration would be welcome and greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jason Ward, MYP coordinator, PSI, Kiev.
