Community and Curriculum

Seniors in the IB Econ class at Bahrain School completed their studies of Section 5 of the currculum, Development Economics. Rather than just study poverty, they did something about it. Bahrain hosts a substantial population of unskilled Asian laborers who are provided sqalid housing and substandard wages. Students sposored one such apartment which housed 37 maintenance workers who earn 50 euros per month. After raising 600 euro with a spaghetti dinner, students contributed to improving the laborers standard of living by providing a drinking water supply, painting the apartment, and renovating the bathroom. After the work project, the students focused on deeper analysis of Economic essay questions such as, "evaluate the proposition that economic development is best achieved through the market system (M05 exam)." This experience brought students in contact with the face behind the economic theory of factor endowments of cheap labor.

It is really amazing.   This is what we are expecting from the children not just learning.  I have no words to write.   I am really inspired by these children.  My responsibility is doubled now.  Now i am feeling that I have to do something more that what Iam doing now. home room teacher in pyp programme
