IB Global lessons 2009 - on peace and conflict

Submitted by Site moderator on Tue, 12/05/2009 - 11:35am.

Following the warm reception of last year’s “global lessons” on poverty, we shall again be encouraging IB World schools to join in global lessons this year, as part of the IB community theme.

The idea is that schools all around the world teach lessons on the same topic at around the same time. In this way, we have a stronger sense of being members of the same IB community while addressing an important global issue.

This year’s lessons will be on the topic of peace and conflict.

Lessons or classroom activities will be available for various subjects in the Middle Years Programme and for Theory of Knowledge in the Diploma programme.

Schools are encouraged to teach these on or around the International Day of Peace on 21 September 2009.

Many individuals and organizations around the world mark the International Day of Peace each year, and the IB community will be joining with the wider global community to reflect on peace and conflict.

In addition to the global lessons, there will also be suggestions for other activities that can be undertaken in schools, and links to relevant websites. These will include suggestions for students engaged in all IB programmes.

Global lesson plans will be posted as soon as they are available, and by the end of August 2009 at the latest.

Further details will follow.
