S.I.S – Makes the day a learning experience.Just when they thought that it was going to be a regular day of school for the children of Vivekananda Madhyamic Vidyalaya, they were in for a real surprise. The students of Singapore International School in Dahisar, Mumbai decided to give them a taste of the S.I.S way of sportsmanship.   CAS (creativity, action and service) plays a vital role in the school life of the international baccalaureate students. S.I.S has adopted a village in Vikramghad which is inhabited by families with very low incomes. We here at S.I.S have been involved in many service activities in the past few months. At S.I.S, the students and faculty members encourage an attitude if social service. We believe that charity does not always begin at home but also can be done by alternate methods. All of us at S.I.S are actively involved in putting a smile on the faces of these children. Everyone put in their best effort to make the students feel as comfortable as possible. Initially communication was a major barrier between the two groups of students but all this changed when the S.I.S students rallied and communicated through the spirit of sportsmanship. “These students coming from a rural background were extremely shy and apprehensive around us but with time they opened up and their loving nature was clearly reflected inspite of communication problems.” Commented a student from the IB diploma programme. The sports carnival was a golden opportunity. The village students never imagined in their dizziest of day dreams what was framed for them. It was a chance for them to excel in various fields, surprisingly, some of them even outshone our students. Other than the athletic aspect of learning, the visiting students were even engaged in activities which would bring out their creativity, these activities involved music, carom, cookery, arts and crafts organized by the S.I.S alumni. In the short span of 48 hours not only did the students organize an entire parade of activities but also established a strong bond of friendship with the tribal children of Vivekananda Vidyalaya. Thus we have never believed more strongly in the motto of S.I.S, “Ready for the world, ready for the future.”

Hey! great work. Recently, we in SelaQui World School, Dehradun have started something of the same kind. After going through your report I have come to the conclusion that schools like us can make a big difference to the under privileged with this type of outreach program. CAS(Service) really develops the individuals mental setup, preparing them to be truly world citizens later on in life. Keep up the good work.
