Do you think many people nowadays do not know why we celebrate certain festivals?

I am a Year 12 IB student in a Hong Kong international school. I am currently studying about Chinese and Western festivals in HL Chinese.

I would like to know what others feel about these problems:

- Why has people forgotten about the original aims of celebrating festivals (e.g. Christmas)?

- How can we remind people of the reasons and aims behind celebrating festivals?

- Is it necessary that we know why we celebrate festivals?

- Do you think certain festivals will disappear in a few decades?

Wow, this is a misleadingly

Wow, this is a misleadingly deep topic I think!  It seems to me that festivals and celebrations have been with us for longer than many of our social religions and that these religions have 'hijacked' the celebrations and made them their own rather than stop them or change them to a different time (I mean nobody wants to mess with a party!).

We've been reviewing the site, based on feedback and reactions. To make it easier for people to find what they want on the site, the blog is now being used only to communicate information from IB. So it is not possible for other users to make blog entries.

I believe because the aims of the holidays have changed. For example, in the United States of America Christmas holds different meanings for different individuals.
