Developing pen pal relationships wasn't enough to really begin to understand similarities and differences between Kalanso School in Mali and Brandon School in Atlanta, Georgia.  So in an exchange program between the schools, two teachers from the Malian school traveled to Atlanta for a 5 week immersion experience in the Fall of 2008.  Students, teachers, as well as other community members gained a greater understanding and appreciation for the Malian people and culture, while the visiting teachers experienced American education and culture first hand.
